Markey, James Lead Huskies to Win over East Stroudsburg

BLOOMSBURG- Casey Markey (York/ Dallastown) tossed a complete game, allowing one run on five hits and Vinnie James (Bristol/ Bristol) went 4-4 with four RBI's to lead Bloomsburg to a 13-1, game-two victory over East Stroudsburg. The Huskies dropped game one 7-5.

The Huskies got on the board first when James hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. Matt Robinson (York/ Red Lion) scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead. After East Stroudsburg cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the fourth, the Huskies put three more runs on the board to make it 5-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Huskies put the game out of reach, exploding for five runs in the inning. With two runs already in, Robinson singled to put runners on first and third with two outs. James then hit a two-run double into the gap to make it 9-1. Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/ Monsignor Bonner) followed with an RBI single to make it 10-1. The Huskies would put three more across in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 13-1.

In game one, the Huskies trailed 4-1 going into the fifth inning but rallied to take a 5-4 lead. Bloomsburg loaded the bases with no one out on a single and two walks. James was then hit by a pitch and Ward walked to force in two runs. The Huskies then added two more runs on RBI ground outs.

However, the Huskies could not hold on to the slim lead as East Stroudsburg rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. Anthony Clemens shut down the Huskies in the final inning to earn the save.

Robinson went 2-5 with two runs, while Andy Bucher (Littlestown/ Littlestown) went 3-3 with three runs in game two to lead Bloomsburg David Miller (Pen Argyl/ Penn Argyl) went 2-2 in game one. Kirk Mueller was 2-3 with two home runs in game one for East Stroudsburg.

The Huskies, 6-14, 1-1 in the PSAC East, will host East Stroudsburg in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played at East Stroudsburg but poor field conditions led to the site being switched.
